Hello everyone. My name is Dean Solden and welcome to BabyBoomerBlog. We started this journey on March 1, 2025, so if you are reading this around that time, you are one of the first to do so. Thank you!
Our Purpose
The purpose of this newsletter/blog is to help Baby Boomers as they are entering and going through their journey into aging. I’ve been in the Senior Living industry for over thirty years and hopefully will be able to help you sort through the myriad of decisions and choices that lay ahead, especially if you or a loved one need any personal or medical care. The options can seem daunting, and I’m here to explain to you from an insider’s perspective, the in and outs of everything from home care, Independent Living, Assisted Living, Nursing Homes, Life Plan communities, and more, in what I hope to be a lively and entertaining way! I won’t hold back - I’m going to give you the good, bad and ugly of our industry.
Newer Models of Care
I’m also going to be having discussions with you about new options that you may not have heard about or even thought about; ways for you to stay at home if you’d like, or even help you figure out how you can live with a few of your friends as you age. And I want to hear your ideas as well. I believe Baby Boomers will change the face of aging and the senior care industry as well. Let’s do it here!
Aging in General
We’ll also discuss aging in general, and we’ll have a conversation about the different aspects of getting older - from relationships to retirement options, financial news to health issues. There’s a lot to getting old! And Boomers want to keep living!
Baby Boomers have changed the culture of every new generation we entered, starting when we were the youngest adults in society in the 1960’s. I believe we will change the way people think about and go about aging as we become the oldest generation in society.
Who Am I?
I’m Dean and have been in the senior living business for over 30 years, building, operating or managing over 15 different senior communities. I am a Boomer myself, and understand the industry in and out. Plus, I love to write and share information. So this forum is perfect! I am passionate about the industry and have tried to create communities where people not only have professional and nurturing personal care, but also have a wonderful quality of life. I have tried to be innovative, pushing the boundaries of the industry to really meet the needs of the people who live in our communities, as well as the people who work in our communities. As we enter this new generation of senior living and senior care, I want us all to be a part of that discussion.

Twice per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays I will give you the inside information about senior living world and the world of BabyBoomers in general. On Tuesdays I will share everything I know about the various senior living community options - Independent Living, Assisted Living, Nursing Homes, Life Plan Communities, Home Care, and the new models of care. I’ll help you understand what these communities are and aren’t and when would be the best time to start thinking about them for yourself or someone you know. Most importantly I’ll be telling you things that aren’t in brochures and that most people won’t tell you about.
On Saturdays, I wax more poetic and will be talking about actually living as a BabyBoomer and dealing with all the complexities of aging.
One of my favorite lines is this…
“Baby Boomers hate the nursing homes of their grandparents and aren’t that crazy about the assisted living communities of their parents”.
Boomers will want something more, something different. Bingo will not be enough for Boomers. Because Baby Boomers want meaning in their lives. I will share some of these models with you and want to explore your thoughts on how we can make the senior living industry work for you.
